Susan has been a Wetland Specialist with the Department of Ecology since 1998. She currently works primarily in Island and Whatcom Counties conducting a wide range of technical assistance site visits, including 3rd party wetland reviews, mitigation compliance monitoring, and Ordinary High Water Mark determinations. She has been involved in several highly controversial OHWM determinations in Island County. Susan also reviews wetland mitigation proposals for compliance through the Water Quality Certification program and assists local jurisdictions in updating and implementing their Critical Areas Ordinances.
Prior to working at Ecology, Susan was a wetland consultant for 8 years after moving to the Seattle area. She has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Conservation and Plant Ecology from the University of Colorado in Boulder.
